There's a song that says "anything you can do I can do better." That isn't true when you compare teen boys and girls with drinking. Teenage girls get drunk faster than their male counterparts, a new study found.
Parents need to advise their daughters that drinking is different for boys and girls. Girls come out the losers in drinking games.
Teen girls are generally smaller than boys. When it comes to alcohol that smaller frame and weight makes it impossible for them to 'keep up' with their male classmates. Not only will their drinks hit them faster they stay drunk longer. Girls who try to go drink for drink with a boy are at a higher risk of alcohol poisoning, according to new research.
Girls have less water in their bodies than boys do. That means it takes less alcohol to get them drunk.
Boys have more enzymes to break down alcohol. That makes it easier for their bodies to metabolize drinks.
Girls also tend to go for sweeter mixed drinks when they party. Those high-sugar drinks can speed up the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream.
