French fake 'torture game show'

A French documentary shows a mock game show where the contestants are being tortured by their rival contestants. What the audience and the viewers of the show didn't know was that these contestants were actors.

The program creator wanted to show the dangers of reality television. Participants in the show are told to pull a lever which would inflict shocks to the other contestants. Each lever that they would pull would increase the level of voltage. BBC reports as much as 82 percent of the participants in the Game of Death pulled the lever. BBC reports the documentary shows how many participants in the setting of a TV show will agree to act against their own principles or moral codes when ordered to do something extreme. The maker of the documentary, Christophe Nick, was surprised and "amazed" and how many participants who obeyed the orders of the game show host. According to Mr. Nick, this experiment shows how the television element increases people's willingness to obey. The Game Show will air on the state-owned television channel France 2 Wednesday evening.
