article imageMarch lion welcomes spring break

London - The March lion ushered in spring break but the March lamb is going to make this a great week for a holiday from the books.
March didn't come in like a lion but it did growl loudly this past weekend. Some communities in southwestern Ontario received close to 80 millimetres of rain resulting in localized flooding. It was especially bad in some low-lying areas in the Hamilton region.
The Grand River Conservation Authority issued a flood warning early Monday, warning residents to stay away from river banks. The local streams and the Grand River itself are carrying greatly increased water flows after the weekend rain hastened the snowmelt.
The worst part of the weekend weather was not the rain but the strong winds. The wet weather swept across the southern part of the province propelled by strong winds gusting to 90 kilometres per hour, downing trees in some instances.
Monday the March lamb made a hesitant return bringing sunshine and spring-warm temperatures. In fact, temperatures should remain in the mid teens for most of the coming week.
Fine weather for spring break.
