Everybody around the world is forced to pay taxes, there is no easy to way to put it. We all have to do it. However, local Sacramento businessman Aaron Zeff didn’t know whether he should have laughed, cried or become enraged when he was handed a bill by two federal agents representing the IRS.
Harv’s Metro Car Wash owner Aaron Zeff was handed a tax bill that was originally four cents but was shocked to see that the bill increased by more than 5,000 times to $202.35, according to
CBS News. The tax bill dated back from 2006 and the four cents grew by that much in four years.
“It's hilarious that two people hopped in a car and came down here for just 4 cents. I think (the IRS) may have a problem with priorities,” said Zeff.
However, Zeff, who also serves as President of the Sacramento Midtown Business Association, said that his books and federal and state payments are always accurate and on time, reports
ABC News.
“In legalese, I think it's called ridiculous. Four cents. The (IRS) probably spends more gas and time driving down here, not just to collect the four cents, but $200,” said Zeff’s lawyer Ashley West.
Zeff doesn’t understand how four cents became more than $200 in four years but Zeff and his lawyer are currently attempting to resolve the issue. Surprisingly, Zeff is not upset at all with the IRS, “There's no malice here. (The IRS is) interested in doing their job and I'm just interested in staying in business."
The
Sacramento Bee reports that IRS spokesperson Jesse Walker is not commenting on the case, citing privacy laws.
The Sacramento car wash is planning a promotion; if you pay your taxes on time then you will only pay four cents. Anything more will be donated to the city’s WEAVE, which assists victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
