Marie Osmond’s son killed himself because he was gay, according to the sitcom actress Roseanne Barr, writing on her blog.
Barr writes that Osmond’s Mormon faith was to blame for the 18-year-old’s suicide.
“Michael Blosil, the singer’s adopted son, was found dead outside his Los Angeles apartment building last week,” says the UK’s Mail.
“It is thought the teen, who is said to have battled depression and had been treated at a rehab clinic in the past, jumped to his death.
“Now Barr has spoken out, saying the youngster took his own life because he was afraid his sexuality would leave his mother ashamed.”
Barr writes on her blog: “Marie Osmond’s poor gay son killed himself. He had been told how wrong and how sick he was every day of his life by his church and the people in it. Calling that ‘depression’ is a lie!
“Yet the Osmonds still talk lovingly about their church, saying nothing about its extremely anti-gay crusade. Marie also has a gay daughter!”
She continues: “Hey I want her and all the gay kids in the world to know that they are just fine being gay and that they deserve love and respect instead of insults and rebuke!
“I have gay people in my family and my circle of friends and I am kicking bigot ass and taking names!”
Fifty-seven-year-old Barr herself grew up among Mormons in Salt Lake City in Utah. She tells Blosil in her blog piece: “If I had been your mom, I would have told you that some of the greatest and smartest and most artistic people who ever lived were gay.
“I would have shielded you from bigots who tore at your soul, like the ones that unfortunately were closest to you.
“To all the gay Mormon children out there in the world, I will be your mom! I love you!”
The Mail reports that no spokesperson for Marie Osmond was available for comment. His funeral was being held today (Monday).
