Toronto - As Toronto experiences sunshine and warm temperatures, it's a great time to experience one of the city's older districts: St. Lawrence, where you can watch the latest movies, eat French food, sit in the area's park or go for a walk to the Harbourfront.
For more than two centuries, the city of Toronto has been home to one of the oldest districts in all of Ontario: the St. Lawrence district, which is home to many businesses, residences and artistic venues. Originally, the St. Lawrence neighborhood was below the waterline with the shoreline being immediately south of Front. The area was filled with more area and land for port and industrial purposes.
Since 1793, the St. Lawrence district, formerly the town of York, has been the site where thousands of Torontonians go do their shopping for fresh meat, seafood, vegetables, fruits and other things at St. Lawrence Market, where it has been in operation since 1803 at the corner of Front Street and Jarvis Street.
The St. Lawrence district does indeed have a rich heritage and architecture, including the flat-iron building at the corner of Wellington Street and Front. The area includes a cheap picture house called Rainbow Cinemas that offers cheap movie tickets. On Tuesdays, you can watch films for $4 and catch matinees for $6. In the evenings you watch the latest picture for $8, while most of the other movie houses charge $12.50.

The district also has two venues for the arts: the St. Lawrence Center for the Arts and the new Sony Center for the Performing Arts that is opening in autumn of 2010.
Between Yonge Street and Jarvis on Front, there are a vast amount of unique restaurants such as the Hot House, Pravda Vodka Bar, the Iron Giant pub, a fine Japanese restaurant, a French bistro, and a large variety of others.
The area is also special because just a few short steps you can go to the city’s Harborfront or its epicenter of transit systems: GO Transit, VIA Rail and the Toronto Transit Commission.

Truly, the St. Lawrence district will continue to modernize but still maintain its rich history for past, present and future Torontonians.
