Condom for 12 year-olds now on sale

A condom called 'Hotshot' has gone on sale to be used by males as young as 12 after government research has shown that younger children are now having sex compared to the 1990s.

The Telegraph is reporting that a Swiss company has designed a smaller condom designed for men as young as 12 years of age. The research showed that children ages 12-14 are having sex without enough protection. According to the Telegraph the, "Federal Commission for Children and Youth, interviewed 1,480 people aged 10 to 20." In the end the new condom called 'Hotshot' is still the same length as a normal condom at 7.4inches, but the diameter is smaller at only 1.7inches (the standard condom is 2inches). A German study of 12,970 people, roughly a quarter said that the 2inch diameter was too large. A number of Swiss groups lobbied to have the condoms manufactured based off of the research results. Nancy Bodmer, who headed the research for Centre for Development and Personality Psychology at Basel University said, "The result that shocked us concerned young boys who display apparently risky behaviour. They have more of a tendency not to protect themselves. They do not have a very developed sexual knowledge. They do not understand the consequences of what they are doing and leave the young girls to take care of the consequences." In Switzerland the age of consent is 16. It is also permissible if the age difference is not greater than 3 years. The United Kingdom has the highest team pregnancy rate of all of Europe according to the Telegraph article. Lamprecht AG, the manufacturer of the 'Hotshot' said that if they decide to market the condoms abroad that the UK would be a top priority for them. The six pack of condoms will sell for 7fr60 or 4.70pounds.
