article imageToronto Maple Leafs ponder signing Blackhawks goalie Huet

By Gordon K. Chan     Mar 3, 2010 in Sports
Reports are swirling of a trade that sends Cristobal Huet to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The speculation is that the Chicago Blackhawk's goalie will be dealt for Toronto defenseman Jeff Finger.
Numerous sources including ESPN state that Chicago goalie Huet and possibly a draft pick will be moved to Toronto.
In return, 30 year-old Leaf defenseman Jeff Finger will be packaged in the deal.
However, sources countered this speculation, including a TSN employee.
The deal seems unlikely, as the Maple Leafs recently signed a starting goaltender in J.S. Giguere from the Anaheim Ducks. Huet's contract is also a significant burden on the team's salary cap as the goaltender is scheduled to make $5.6 million per year to the end of the 2012 season.
The injured Jeff Finger, has 2 goals and 9 assists, but is a minus 30 this season and has not played a game since late January.
