Childhood is a time of dreams and play. For some youngsters their playground is in a hospital. Children who face life-threatening illnesses can be given a wish through Kids Wish Network. Donavan, 5, is just one kid given a wish.
In Texarkana lives a little guy named Donavan. The five-year-old is like most kids, he loves to play. Donavan isn't like most kids though, he has been dealing with a life and death struggle called cystic fibrosis since he was diagnosed at 3-months-old.
Cystic fibrosis is inherited. The disease clogs the lungs and digestive systems. Every day patients have to endure with breathing treatments and chest therapies. Kids like Donavan take medication each day to survive. Some kids, Donavan being one, can't absorb nutrients the right way forcing them to be fed with a feeding tube.
Donavan's mom and dad contacted the
Kids Wish Network to see if their little boy could be granted his wish of going to Disney World in Florida.
Donavan's wish was granted and more. Before the family jetted off to Florida Donavan had a gift box full of toys and games to open that had been tailored to his personality.
Since returning from a fun-filled week in Orlando that included trips to Sea World, Disney's Animal Kingdom and the Magic Kingdom he's been on cloud 9 says mom Kelly.
"[Kids Wish Network] is a great foundation," said
Kelly. "I'm glad that there's something like that for kids and their families."
