CNN just announced the threat has been cancelled for Hawaii. While folks return home, will this be like the boy who cried wolf and make folks less vigilant or concerned in the future.
Since early this morning the people of Hawaii have been on alert with the announcement of a potential tsunami scheduled to hit the coasts. Given Hawaii's position in the Pacific, it is reasonable to expect serious problems when an earthquake hits somewhere in the oceans aligned with the islands.
Tsunami warnings come fairly frequently in Hawaii, but this was one considered significant; as people "battened down the hatches" to prepare for the worst.
The worst didn't happen, but the fact remains Hawaii continues to have to be vigilant. The concern for weather officials, however, is that folks may not heed the warning the next time, given the frequency of them. That's the problem in areas where people are at risk, as newsmen report today.
However, the folks of Hawaii are likely to say, as they reported this morning, they would not be hit again with the type of devastation that has hit the islands before and could again.
