Just before noon the Portland Police Bureau and US Marshall's Service requested the assistance of the
Sandy Police Department to assist in the arrest of a wanted individual.
During the attempted arrest of the suspect ran from officers and entered a residence in on Highway 26 where he had been working. The police sealed off the area and evacuated residences and businesses close to the area.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office SWAT was called in to assist. After the SWAT team attempted to negotiate with the suspect they fired tear gas into the home and made entry.
The SWAT team discovered the body of the suspect in the attic of the home. It appeared that the suspect used a gun to kill himself.
Steven Alan Routley had been charged with using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, sex abuse 2, sex abuse 3, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor and felon in possession of a firearm.
