Algerian national police chief Ali Tounsi has been shot dead by a colleague inside police headquarters in an apparent retaliatory murder-suicide
On Thursday, the interior ministry of Algeria announced that national police chief Ali Tounsi was shot dead at police headquarters over a vehement discussion where the alleged shooter became extremely upset, according to
France 24.
The killer then turned the gun on himself but was taken to the hospital for treatment on his wounds. The ministry added that an investigation has been opened to understand the circumstances behind the attack, reports
Reuters.
Press TV reports that the suspected shooter is Colonel and Commander-in-Chief of the airborne police force Shoayeb Outlache. After several disagreements over anti-terror policies with Tounsi, Outlache was dismissed from his position.
Outlache is now in the hospital being treated for his wounds and preliminary reports suggest there has been no link to Islamist militants, notes
BBC News.
Tounsi was head of the National police for 15 years.
