South Carolina Congressman Mike Pitts has introduced legislation that would ban federal currency in his state and replace it with gold and silver coins.
South Carolina Republican Representative Mike Pitts has introduced legislation that would ban the use of Federal Reserve Notes in his state and would replace it with gold and silver coins but he believes other Congressmen do not have the “intestinal fortitude” to pass such legislation, according to
CBS News.
Pitts’ law would substitute the nation’s currency for gold and silver and would allow the state to have a “base of currency” if the United States economy collapses, reports the
United Press International. However, legal experts believe the measure would not pass and one unknown expert said gold and silver coins cannot be used as currency anyway.
In an interview with the
Hotsheet, Pitts said, reports
Midlands Connect, “If the federal government continues to spend money at the rate it's spending money, and if it continues to print money at the rate it's printing money, our economic system is going to collapse."
Pitts added that the Germans didn’t believe their economy collapse but began to carry wheelbarrows of money in order to buy a loaf of bread, “The Soviet Union didn't think their system would collapse, but it did. Ours is capable of collapsing also.”
Nevertheless, Pitts does anticipate a nationwide economic collapse but does not know when. Pitts doubts his bill would pass because he doesn’t see the “intestinal fortitude of this legislative body to test the federal government on constitutional issues.”
