The winners of the CBC Literary Awards will be announced on March 18th on CBC Radio One by Jian Ghomeshi. Awards are given for creative non-fiction, short story, and poetry.
The English-language CBC Literary Awards will be announced on Thursday, March 18 on CBC Radio One’s Q with Jian Ghomeshi. The French-language awards will be announced on La Premiere Chaine de Radio-Canada on the same day.
There are 80 English finalists for this year’s award in three categories. Those categories are creative nonfiction, poetry and short story. Winners in each category will receive $6,000 and will be published in Air Canada’s enRoute magazine. The authors will also be interviewed by Shelagh Rogers on March 22. The winning entries will also be read on Between the Covers and will be available for download on their CBC podcast. The second prize is $4,000. The works are judged anonymously “on the basis of the author’s use of language, originality of subject and writing style.” Jurors’ names remain unknown until the end of the competition.
To be eligible to win a CBC Literary Award a writer must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident and the work must never have been published or performed before in any form. Each entrant pays a non-refundable fee of $20. Creative non-fiction and short story entries must be between 2000 and 2500 words and poetry must be between 1000 and 2000 words.
You can find a list of the English-language finalists on the CBC Literary Awards website.
