Ottawa - Michael Ignatieff and the Liberals have finally gained overall support from the Canadian general public as a new poll shows they have a four point lead over the ruling Conservatives.
After months of polls, Canada’s Liberal Party has taken the lead over Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservatives, according to a new survey, reports Reuters Canada.
A new Environics Research Group poll that was released on Friday suggests that 37 per cent of decided voters support the Liberals, while 33 per cent would vote for the Conservatives in the next election, which is 4 per cent lower than the last Environics poll conducted in December.
The Prime Minister’s decision to prorogue Parliament until after the Olympics has made Canadians across the country very dissatisfied with his performance as leader of the country. The Liberals also feel Harper is trying to hide from his critics.
However, the poll shows that no party is the clear favorite to take power from the minority government as the New Democratic Party slipped to 13 per cent and the Green Party gaining 9 per cent of support. The separatist Bloc Quebecois has 8 per cent of the vote.
The telephone survey was conducted among 958 adult respondents between Feb. 4 and Feb. 9 and contains a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percentage points.
