article imageAmbulance ride from hell? Vehicle stolen with patient inside

By Sandy Sand     Feb 15, 2010 in Crime
It’s bad enough to be a patient in an ambulance, but having the vehicle stolen and taken for a joy ride around a parking lot can’t be too good for the patient’s well-being even if paramedics were along for the unwanted ride.
Police said an unidentified 24-year-old man from Illinois was drunk when he allegedly jumped behind the wheel of the ambulance as paramedics were treating a patient in the back of the vehicle.
The incident took place in a parking lot at the Tyrol Basin Ski and Snowboard Area in Mount Horeb near Madison, Wisconsin.
Deputy Chief Dale Dow of the Fitch-Rona Medical Service, said the vehicles emergency brake was on, and it was unclear how the ambulance was stopped after the suspect took a tour of the parking lot.
A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said the man was arrested. No other details were available.
