When the G20 summit comes to Toronto hotels will be booked solid. While not a problem for Pride Week the Toronto Blue Jays are having to reschedule a planned game.
The decision to hold the G20 in Toronto will showcase the city's financial area in a time but is unlikely to bring in the big dollars that Pride Week does reports the
Canadian Press.
During the June 26-27 summit tens of thousands of people will swarm the city. The media, support staff and delegations from around the globe will take up much of the rooms that generally go to those attending the Pride activities which had already been rescheduled months before. The summit is expected to also draw in large numbers of protesters.
The Toronto Blue Jays were to host the Philadelphia Phillies on those two days. The location of the Rogers Centre and the planned venue of the summit are next door to each other. In order to protect world leaders the games have to be rescheduled.
While the Canadian Press reported that Pride Day organizers were having to change the date of the Pride Parade those changes were made long before the G20 was a factor. Executive Director Tracey Sandilands said in a phone interview that they are not expecting to have any problem with hotel bookings for their weekend, in fact they are in the process of booking performers at this time.
"Some tourists that plan to arrive early may find some problems with booking but those coming for the Pride Weekend will not have any problems," assured Sandilands.
This year's Pride Parade has been pushed back to July 4. Millions come to Toronto for the yearly parade.
