Manchester City dispatched the Bolton Wanderers 2-0 at Eastlands, moving closer to the coveted top four finish that would see them into the Champions League next season.
Seasoned strikers Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor netted the markers, moving City into a tie for fourth with Liverpool, although they have a game on the Reds.
Adam Johnson, the newest addition to the squad, played exceptinally well causing the penalty that allowed Tevez to put away the first goal in the 31st minute.
Johnson was a threat all game from the right wing, after being purchased from Middlesbrough for £8 million at the close of the winter transfer window. He received a resounding applause after being substituted for Sylvinho with 6 minutes remaining in the match.
"That is why we bought him." Roberto Mancini the City manager said in a post match interview, "He is a young player who wants to do well. He can play on both the left and the right and he can also play behind the main striker. He can continue to grow and I think he can be a very important player for this club,' Manc'
New signing, and Priemership legend Patrick Viera made his home debut and first start for the Blues. He set up Adebayor with a brilliant floater from midfield capping City's second goal.
Mancini was enjoying a nice swing of form after replacing Mark Hughes. City went six wins to one loss before falling to bitter rivals Manchester United 3-1 in the Carling Cup finals.
The Blues' last time out, On Feb. 6, saw them lose 2-1 at Hull City a very disappointing result considering the relegation candidates stature.
The lose was made worse by criticism from Robinho who slammed Mancini's tactics after scoring the winning goal in his return on loan to Santos, his first professional club.
The Blues will play Stoke City for the next two matches. On Feb. 13 Stoke City will make the trip to the City of Manchester Stadium for an FA Cup match, and then on Feb 16. City will be away against Stoke as they continue their hunt for a Champions League birth in Premier League competition.
