Police across Canada say they will compare notes after a top Canadian military officer was accused of sex crimes and the murder of two women.
Tire tracks and an interview with a behavioural science expert from the Ontario Provincial Police lead to one of the most shocking arrests in Canada's history.
Quinte West Mayor John Williams told media on CTV that the community is in shock over the
arrest Monday of Col. Russell Williams on charges of first-degree murder.
Mayor Williams, no relation, often had dealings with Col. Williams, the base commander of CFB Trenton. Williams said that the commander was not a fan of small talk and did not talk about personal things. He added that Williams was very professional on all official business.
One of Williams' neighbours said on a CTV television interview that he is relieved after being wrongly accused as a prime suspect of break-ins in the Tweed area.
Larry Jones, 65, had been a suspect in two Tweed, Ontario break-ins that took place in September. Jones lives close to one of Russell Williams' homes, a cottage in Tweed on Cozy Cove Lane.
According to police both women had been tied to chairs in the late hours and photographed.
Williams' home in Tweed has been cordoned off since Monday by the police as they search for possible evidence.
On Thursday last week Williams was stopped during a roadside spot check in front of Jessica Lloyd's home. After a conversation at the time with the police Williams was looked at as a possible suspect.
Superiors at CFB Trenton are shocked, calling Williams a "shining star."
Canadian police are now looking at other cold cases in the area and areas where the suspect served or was during official business.
Constable Kristine Rae of the Ontario Provincial Police said that at this time the OPP are at the beginnings of their investigation piecing together a time-line of Williams activity.
Williams was charged with the first-degree murders of Jessica Lloyd and Corporal Marie Comeau on Monday in addition to charges related to two break-ins from earlier in September.
