On March 4, the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto scores an international coup when Anselm Keifer's installation of Palmsonntag (Palm Sunday) goes on exhibit.
Using religious symbols and ancient text, Palmsonntag deals with life, death and rebirth.
AGO Curator of Contemporary Art David Moos said, “Palmsonntag is an installation of profound impact. It must be seen, felt, and encountered. Its historical reach and epic vision are signatures of one of today’s most important living artists.”
Keifer is known for his historical, spiritual and political allusions. Virtually every major museum of contemporary art has pieces of his collection.
The installation will run from March 4 until Aug. 1, 2010. The Toronto showing follows earlier versions shown at the Grand Palais in Paris and at the Gagosian Gallery in Los Angeles.
