CFB Trenton officer arrested, charged with murder

Belleville - A officer from CFB Trenton has been arrested for the murder of two women in Ontario. Police surrounded the home of Col. Russell Williams, who took command of the base last year.

An officer from a local military base has been charged with the murder of two women in Ontario. The Belleville police, the OPP and the military police were involved in the case that has landed the base commander behind bars. Wing commander Col. Russell Williams has been charged with two counts each of first-degree murder, forceable confinement and break and enter with sexual assault. The victims of two home invasions have cooperated with police concerning the case. The OPP and Belleville Police conducted a press conference on Monday afternoon concerning the murder of Belleville resident Jessica Lloyd. The Belleville Police had warned single women to be aware of a sexual predator. Belleville Police said that it is not known at this time if Lloyd knew Williams.

Jessica Lloyd 27, disappeared Jan. 28 and police said on Monday that her body had been found. A second woman, Cpl. Marie France Comeau of the 435th squadron, Trenton, was found dead in her home in Brighton on Nov. 25, 2009. Williams came into the attention of the police during a roadside canvass. At this time there are no other suspects in these cases. Williams is married. His wife was at the residence at the time of his arrest. Williams is scheduled to be in court later on Monday.
