Female Iraqi candidate for the March 7 election, Suha Abdul Jarallah, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in the city of Mosul.
On Monday, Suha Abdul Jarallaha, a 36-year-old Sunni, was shot and killed in front of her relative’s house in the northern city of Mosul, according to the
Montreal Gazette. She was leaving her family member’s residence in the Ras al-Jadda neighborhood when a gunman shot her and fled in a car with two other men.
Intissar Allawi, the victim’s relative, said the killing was politically motivated, reports
Press TV, “These are independent and national people who are targeted to prevent them from standing in the general election.”
The killing occurred one day before campaigning would begin for the March 7 general election, which was delayed by more than one month.
Abdul Jarallah appointed Premier by the United States in June of 2004 and left the post after less than one year.
