A Merced County sheriff’s spokesman said and unidentified 53-year-old man and his partner were duck hunting with the man’s dog in the Los Banos area in central California, when he set his
shotgun down so he could retrieve some duck decoys.
That was the beginning of his being accidentally shot in wounded in the back by his four-footed companion.
After he placed the shotgun on the ground, police said the unidentified
Labrador retriever stepped on it, causing the safety to disengage and the gun fire.
The man was taken to Los Banos Memorial Hospital to have the wound to his upper back patched up and was released, police said.
