article imageSuspected thief ends up with hypothermia after fleeing police

By Susan Keeping     Feb 2, 2010 in Crime
Listowel - A 23 year-old man was hospitalized briefly after fleeing from police when the pickup truck he was driving was stopped for a routine check.
In what was probably not the smartest choice he made that day, a Listowel man was treated in hospital for hypothermia.
The pickup up truck he was driving was stopped by police on January 31st; they had noticed that the back lights of the truck were out. After stopping briefly for the police, the driver tried to get away but drove the pickup truck into a ditch. The driver and one of the two passengers then ran from the vehicle. Police quickly caught the passenger. The driver was eventually found by police with the aid of a police dog. He ran through a river and hid himself in a snowback in minus zero temperatures.
The driver and his passengers were charged with possession of a stolen snowmobile and of what is suspected to be methamphetamine.
