NCAA: Pittsburgh moving to the Big Ten?

By Oliver VanDervoort     Feb 1, 2010 in Sports
Rumors have begun floating that the Big Ten's search for a twelfth team - making it possible for the conference to have a football championship game - is over
According to Fox Sports correspondent Ben Maller, sources inside the program have told him that Pittsburgh is getting set to announce they will make the jump in conferences.
The move will reestablish the natural rivalry between Pitt. and current Big Ten occupant Penn State, while simultaneously giving the conference another east coast presence, a valuable chip when dealing with television broadcast rights.
Conversely, this move will further weaken the Big East's football conference power ranking, as Pitt is considered one of the premier programs in the conference. It would also slightly weaken the basketball standings, however with so many more powerful teams in the Big East basketball conference, the effect would be lessened.
Maller claims an announcement about the move could come as soon as Thursday.
