Toronto is the scene of Discovery's Cash Cab. The Cash Cab is a cab driven by Adam Growe. A stand-up comedian, Growe drives contestants around Toronto, asking trivia questions and giving away cash to people who answer correctly.
Cash Cab began in September 2008 and is in its second year of production. Already a hit in the US the show has come to Toronto.
The cash cab has driven 3,850 kilometres while asking contestants about 920 questions. Using 527 litres of gasoline, the taxi cab has completed 99 official games played this year.
Growe spent 17 days training to become a taxicab driver, the mandatory time for the taxicab driver training program.
It takes 10 hours of production for each half hour episode. There are a total of eight cameras used to film Cash Cab. Five of the cameras are inside the taxi, one is a mobile camera and the other two are on the roof.
During season one the top winning contestant left the cab $1,350 richer.
No everyone wants to be a contestant. For those who decline another cab is hailed for them if Adam doesn't have time to drive them to their destination.
The show is on Saturday evenings on Discovery Channel Canada.
