The UK's top Rugby League competition the Engage Super League kicked off with a bang this weekend with both fixtures played giving excited results.
Leeds Rhino's got their title defence off to an explosive start on Friday night beating the Celtic Crusaders by 34-6, the game began with a slow start with both teams battling it out for the lead going into half time. The teams were held at 6-6 till Leeds ran in a flurry of tries in the last quarter of the 80 minute game.
The Crusaders took the lead inside the early minutes with a penalty scored by Witt, Leeds got into their stride with Scott Donald breaking through Celtic's defence to give Leeds the lead. The Crusaders then levelled the game making it 6-6.
Stand-off Danny McGuire turned the game in Leeds' favour in the 64th minute of the game with two flurries of genius giving deputising full back Kallum Watkins a 65 metre try and and then putting Ali Lauitit in for a try to take the Rhino's 12 points ahead of the Crusaders . Fatigue set in for the home side at the Racecourse ground, as the Rhinos continued their rampage over the newly formed Celtic side with Kevin Sinfield scoring for the Rhino's and new signing Delaney scoring a debut try for the club. Ali Lauititi finished off the Crusaders with a try two minutes before the end of the game.
The other game this weekend between the Harelquins and Wakefield Wildcats at the Twickenham Stoop. The away team took the two points winning the game by eighteen points to ten.
John Kears side got off to a winning start giving them the same points as title holders Leeds Rhino's and placing them in second place in preparation for the games next week. Richard Moore for the Wildcats and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook for the Harlequins were red-carded during the game but the wildcats always seemed to have the edge over the home team.
Wakefield took the lead with an early try from Daryl Millards try, for the hosts Ben Jones-Bishop leads the charge and put the home side level before the half time break, Ben Jefferies took the lead again for the Wildcats with the away side going into half time in front. Jones-Bishop levelled the scores again not long at the start of the second half, but full back Aaron Murphy settled matters giving the Wildcats the two points they wanted.
