A demonstration in La Coruna, Spain ended in violence between police and firefighters and other emergency service workers.
A protest against the privatisation of emergency services brought about 500 firefighters to the main city square and then onto the headquarters of the regional council. Protesters were demanding talks with the government representative.
Police were sent to warn the emergency service workers to stop throwing nails and fireworks. Anti-riot police then charged the protesters, firing rubber balls and beating them with batons.
