Mourners in Haiti turned out Saturday for the funeral of the archbishop of Port-au-Prince. His body was pulled from the ruins not far from the national cathedral after the earthquake.
Haitian President Rene Preval attended the funeral of Monsignor Joseph Serge Miot. After the funeral the body of the 63-year-old archbishop was taken to Litavois Cemetery for burial.
When Preval was criticized about not being more public since the earthquake he pointed out that the funeral was not the time for politics.
The funeral was attended mostly by clergy, as they lined up to pay their respects to the archbishop. Miot was laid in an open white casket, even though there were injuries to his face.
Miot's friends referred to him as a well-liked humble man. A Mexican rescue crew found Miot dead in the ruins two days after the earthquake.
