Toronto Transit Commmission Chairman Adam Giambrone is expected to announce his bid for the Mayor of Toronto on Feb. 1 after weeks of speculation from political pundits.
For weeks, there has been speculation in the media all over the Greater Toronto Area of whether or not Toronto Transit Commission Chairman Adam Giambrone will run for Mayor of Toronto in 2010 but now the question has been answered.
On Feb. 1, according to the
National Post, Giambrone, the former President for the New Democratic Party for five years, will announce his candidacy for Mayor at the Revival in the city’s Little Italy district. It is expected that he will file the papers earlier in the day at City Hall.
In an e-mail to the
Toronto Star on Sunday evening, Giambrone said, “I can say there's been a lot of interest in my intentions for the 2010 municipal election and I've said I'll be announcing them in late January, which is fast approaching. I'm looking forward sharing my plans with Toronto in the next week or so, and participating in an exciting election. On February 1, I'll be gathering with some friends and supporters to celebrate Toronto.”
According to the
Torontoist, an
Angus-Reid-Toronto Star poll shows Giambrone is second-place among voters with 17 per cent of the vote but front-runner George Smitherman is first with 44 per cent.
