MLB: Giants Reach Deal With Bengie Molina

By Kristofor Molson     Jan 22, 2010 in Sports
The San Francisco Giants and catcher Bengie Molina have come to terms on a one-year deal worth $4.5 million that will keep him as the starting catcher.
The San Francisco Giants and veteran catcher Bengie Molina completed a one-year deal worth $4.5 million. The million-dollar deal was completed on Friday after Bengie passed a physical. The move was a surprise to Molina who was looking to sign a multi-year contract with the New York Mets for next season.
San Francisco general manager Brian Sabean indicated that catcher Bengie Molina wouldn't be back for another season with the Giant's organization, but later changed his mind.
Molina hit .265 with 80 runs batted in along with a career high 20 homeruns last season. Molina can earn another $1.5 million this year in performance bonuses based on games started.
