Only two percent of those browsing Internet sites are actually clicking on ads that fund websites, according to online ad network Chitika.
According to a report by Chitika ad revenue is supported by very few Internet viewers. The study took place in October for two weeks using 86,683,507 anonymous individuals through their 60,000+ publisher network to find out what was the true percentage that could be termed "clickers."
During that two week period 1,863,710 individuals did click at least once, making a 2.15 percent clicker rate.
Chitika is a search-based online advertising network. They work with publishers to find the best ways for their clients to monetize search engine traffic and with advertisers on generating leads. Chitika has over 60,000 sites and more than 2 billion monthly impressions.
Their October study shows that old-school advertising theories with predictive targeting towards people that are more likely to click on Internet advertising.
