NFL: Chargers Give Norv Turner Extension

By Kristofor Molson     Jan 19, 2010 in Sports
After a disappointing loss to the New York Jets in the AFC Divisional game, the San Diego Chargers extends Norv Turner's contract through 2013.
The San Diego Chargers and head coach Norv Turner have agreed on a contract extension through the 2013 season. The contract extension came right after the Chargers suffered a tough 17-14 loss to the New York Jets in the AFC Divisional game.
Team president Dean Spanos told the Associated Press on Monday night that he spoke with Norv Turner for about 45 minutes earlier in the day and completed the deal. Turner was not accepted at first when he replaced Marty Shottenheimer after the 2006 season as his head coaching overall record was 58-82-1 and never made it to the post season.
The Chargers have won three straight AFC West division titles under Norv Turner, but can't seem to make it to the Super Bowl. The Chargers are 3-3 and have been put out the divisional round the past two seasons. Norv Turner's regular season record is 32-16 even though the Chargers tend to start off the season slow.
