article imageNCAA: Tennessee Too Much for Auburn

By Michael Bearak     Jan 14, 2010 in Sports
The #9 ranked Tennessee Volunteers were too much for their SEC rival the Auburn Tigers as a 1 point half time lead became a 26 point victory.
The Tennessee Volunteers proved to be too much as they pulled away from the Auburn Tigers in the second half of their game in Knoxville Thursday night.
Wayne Chism had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Chism also had 6 steals too. J.P. Maze and Bobby Prince led the scoring for the Volunteers with 14 points each as the Volunteers walked away with an 81-55 victory over the Tigers.
Maze hit a jumper with a little over 18 minutes to go in the game that sparked an 11-1 run for the Volunteers that put the game out of reach for the Tigers.
For the night the Volunteers had 48 points inside the paint. They were 31 for 51 from the field shooting just shy of 61%. The also made 7 three pointers and went 12 for 19 from the free-throw line.
It was a much harder struggle for the Tigers who hit just 17 for 56 or 30% of their shots and they weren't much better from behind the 3-point arch hitting 11 for 35 there.
Both teams will see action again on Saturday. The Tigers will play host to Kentucky, while the Volunteers will host Ole Miss.
