By Michael Bearak     Jan 14, 2010 in Sports
Former USC star O.J. Mayo has not cooperated with the internal investigation by USC or that of the NCAA. The investigation is concerning whether or not Mayo accepted improper gifts.
USC athletic director, Mike Garrett told Shelley Smith of ESPN that Mayo has not cooperated with USC's investigation concerning the allegations that Mayo accepted improper gifts.
January 3, 2010 USC committed self-imposed sanctions against their men's basketball program for violating NCAA rules related to Mayo and his relationship with Rodney Guillory, a former runner for BDA Sports Management. The sanctions include a one-year ban on postseason play to be served this season, a reduction in scholarships and restrictions on recruiting. They will also vacate its wins during the 2007-08 season and will return the money it received from participating in the NCAA tournament.
When Mayo's agent LaPoe Smith was contacted on Thursday as to why his client was unwilling to cooperate he responded, "We have no comment at all on this issue."
