article imageLady Gaga Says Hands Up

Lady Gaga is not shy when it comes to speaking her mind, and that's exactly what she'll be doing at a "Hands Up for Marriage Equality" benefit on Saturday, January 16, 2010 in Atlantic City.
Lady Gaga has been an outspoken supporter of LGBT equality, joining the call for full civil rights protections for LGBT people at the National Equality March in Washington, D.C. last October and declaring her opposition to all homophobia and sexism in the music industry.
In a statement announcing the event Lady Gaga commented "I am honored to be able to continue to raise awareness and money for this cause and these outstanding organizations. Organizations like these are in the trenches every day working on behalf of all of us whether you are LGBT or straight. Equal and full civil rights are supposed to be for all of us.” Gaga was recently the subject of dismay from the Westboro Baptist Church over her support of the LGBT community.
Out in AC, the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender signature event brand of Harrah's Entertainment in Atlantic City, NJ, will feature a "Hands Up for Marriage Equality" benefit on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Club Worship in the House of Blues at Showboat, hosted by LGBT advocate, Lady Gaga.
In addition to the famed pop star, fans and supporters can take to the dance floor as DJ's Michael DeCero and Vito Fun will rock the decks at Club Worship. Doors open at 10pm, admission is a minimum donation of $20 at the door. There will be no advance ticket sales and you must be at least 21-years-old with valid identification.
Most importantly, one hundred percent of admission to this event will benefit Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality Pennsylvania, Garden State Equality, and The Power. Four organizations whose mission is to advocate and empower the LGBT Community and Marriage Equality efforts in the Tri-State region and beyond.
Atlantic City Tourism has recently made a committed effort to focus on LGBT issues in hopes of attracting a diverse visitor base. Harrah's is instrumental in developing LGBT events such as this one. As with other US states, New Jersey is in the midst of Senate reviews to determine the future state of gay marriage. Many think time is of essence as the supportive Democrats are leaving office, leaving the whole issue once again in limbo.
This special benefit hosting appearance will follow her concert at the lavish Borgato Hotel

Once a thriving LGBT destination, the tide turned some years back, and hopes are it will once again.
UPDATE: Both the concert and the fundraiser have been cancelled due to health reasons. Reports state that Gaga is suffering from an irregular heartbeat, as a result of exhaustion and dehydration. Her doctors have advised her to take some time off and rest.
