NCAAF: Matt Barkley to Stay a Trojan

By Kristofor Molson     Jan 12, 2010 in Sports
With Pete Carroll on his way out of the University of Southern California football fold, players are second guessing decisions to stay, but Matt Barkley will return.
University of Southern California quarterback Matt Barkley is going to stay a Trojan despite the departure of Coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates. Matt Barkley started as a true freshman last season and threw for 2,735 yards and 15 touchdowns and a bowl game win over Boston College University.
Barkley told the Associated Press that his desire to play for USC was larger than either of those two coaches. He also said, "It’s kind of disappointing to see them leave. More than anything it's a challenge to get better and just reach another level. I came to school because I wanted to be a Trojan and nothing about coaches leaving would change that for me."
