Cuban defector left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman will most likely sign with a National League team, according to league sources on Sunday.
It has been reported that left-handed starting pitcher Aroldis Chapman has signed a deal with a National League team that is worth $30 million, according to ESPN. On Sunday morning, league sources say the Cuban defector signed a five-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds who were “going after him like crazy.”
Yahoo! Sports notes that teams like the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Boston Red Sox and the Florida Marlins were strong suitors to sign Chapman. The Red Sox started the initial bidding at $15.5 million and then the Blue Jays offered Chapman $23 million on Saturday.
Chapman originally wanted a $50 million deal, reports, but has to settle with $30 million.
