'Green' goats help recycle Christmas trees

By Sandy Sand     Jan 5, 2010 in Environment
As former “Tonight Show” host Jack Paar was famous for saying, “I kid you not.“ When goats join forces with ecologists, discarded Christmas trees have a way of quickly disappearing.
Officials in Arlington, Washington, found a way to successfully recycle Christmas trees and provide good meals for goats, which have a reputation of being nature’s garbage disposals and will eat just about anything.
In a goat version of Meals on Wheels, city officials took the tossed-out trees to New Moon Farm Goat Rescue and Sanctuary, where 38 goats feasted on them.
Sanctuary owner Ellen Felsenthal said:
…people like the idea of turning trees into goat food.
She added that she’s looking for good families to adopt the rescued goats.
