The rumours have been flying for a while now. Is Apple working on releasing a tablet computer or not? Are they focusing on this and looking towards an early 2010 release? The answer is no one knows for sure.
However, as reported by AFP, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Apple Inc. were planning to announce the release of a tablet-like computer and they would start to ship the first of them out in March.
WSJ claims to have been briefed by the company and say that the long speculated device will be a colour touchscreen of about 10 to 11 inches (24.5 - 27.9 centimetres). Users of the tablet will be able to view movies, TV shows, play games, read books and newspapers and surf the Internet.
The WSJ claimed that the tablet would be launched later this month but didn't exactly know when.
Next comes the confusion of the Apple launch date. It's been widely reported for weeks that Apple would launch a new product on January 26, but it now seems that January 27 will be the date.
Financial Times, Fox News and Digital Journal were among many to report that Apple had booked their usual launch venue, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for a January 26 launch but now All Things Digital, which is owned by Dow Jones, the publisher of the WSJ, is adamant that the launch of the new Apple product will be January 27.
All Things Digital writes: So, that rumored Apple event everyone has been jawing about these past few weeks? It’s on and it’s going to be a big deal.
Sources in a position to know tell me Apple (AAPL) is indeed planning a media event later this month at which the company will announce a major new product. The gathering is to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, a space Apple often uses for media events like this. According to other sources, it will occur on Wednesday, Jan. 27, not Tuesday, Jan. 26, as had been rumored.
So while a major product launch from Apple is ensured, the notoriously private company will keep even those who think they're in the know on the edge of their seats until the now hotly debated launch date. The guarantee is, by the end of the month, Apple will be taking the world by storm yet again.
