The Hooters restaurant chain will begin its latest bargain menu offering on Monday, January 4. The new special, "More that a Mouthful," includes a one-half pound cheeseburger and fries for $5.99.
Hooters of America, Inc., rolls out its newest special menu offering on Monday, January 4, according to the trade publication, Nation's Restaurant News. The special, which Hooters is calling, "More than a Mouthful," is a one-half pound cheeseburger and fries for $5.99. The special will be offered nationwide, according to the Atlanta-based chain.
Hooters is among scores of chain restaurants introducing or adding discount menu items during the recession in an attempt to increase foot traffic in the stores. Restaurant News says that Hooters began offering a $5.99 boneless wing platter Wednesday special at the beginning of 2009. The $5.99 "More than a Mouthful" Monday special is about $5.00 less than the items would be without the special pricing.
According to the Hooters company website, the Hooters chain now consists of over 450 company-owned and franchised stores in 43 states and 26 countries. The first Hooters opened in Clearwater, Florida on October 4, 1983, and based on 2008 sales, Hooters was ranked 45th out of the top 400 restaurant chain stores by Restaurants and Institutions Magazine.
The chain has been somewhat controversial because of its name and the portrayal of the "Hooter Girl" as the most recognizable symbol of the company. Hooters attempts to address some of these concerns in the "About Hooters" section of their website.
