American professional boxer Evander Holyfield, the former world heavyweight boxing champion whose ear was bitten and cut by Mike Tyson in one of their heavyweight fights, is set to clash with Francois Botha of South Africa on January 16 in Uganda
Former Heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield is set to face Francois Botha of South Africa on January 16, 2010 in Uganda.
At age 47, Holyfield is trying to stage a boxing come back and wants to prove to boxing fans that he is still a force to reckon with despite his age.
Organisers at Kampala's Nambole Stadium said both boxers had signed contracts and predicted a crowd of 80,000.
Holyfield's last fight was over a year ago when he fought and lost to Nicolai Valuev for the WBA heavyweight crown in Decvember 2008.
"I'm very much looking forward to going to Uganda and I expect a tough fight against Francois Botha. Holyfield said."I am going to win and I will cherish the WBF title." , he added.
Francois Botha has figured out in major heavyweight boxing events with top notch opponents including Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitscko and Michael Moorer.
"Expect the fittest, toughest and best ever Francois Botha in Uganda in January. I owe my fans and members of Team Botha the performance of my life. I intend to make good on that.", Botha said.
Botha is a South African boxer, nicknamed the "White Buffalo". He is current World Boxing Foundation World Heavyweight Champion. He was born on September 28, 1968 in Witbank South Africa. He is credited with 54 professional fights, winning 47, losing four and drawing two with one no contest.
