Popular Chinese actor Jackie Chan will take over from the original Karate Kid actor Pat Morita in the new sequel of the popular movie series about martial arts, together with Will Smith's son Jaden.
A new version of the popular Karate Kid movie is due for release next June 2010. The new version takes place in Beijing, China with the popular Chinese actor Jackie Chan together with Will Smith's son Jaden.
Starring in the 1984 original film were Pat Morita, Ralph Macchio and Elizabeth Shue.
Smith plays Dre, the role of Daniel Larusso in the original. Chan plays Mr. Han, a Chinese version of Mr. Miyagi. As in the original, a boy and his mother move to a new location to start a new life. Bullies torment boy. The boy learns martial arts from an eccentric instructor.
The original Karate Kid is an American film about martial arts. It was a commercial success when it was first released in 1984, earning Pat Morita an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
The film had three sequels, Karate Kid Part 1, Part ll and The Next Karate Kid. The film launched the movie career of Macchio and revitalized the acting career of Morita, who made other movies other than the three sequels.
The original movie had a recorded gross revenue of more $90 million.
