Prison officials are claiming that Bernie Madoff was treated for dizziness and hypertension. Reports were denied that he was assaulted.
Disgraced financier Bernie Madoff was hospitalized for hypertension and elevated blood pressure.
There was an early release that said he had been treated at Duke Medical Center, but Butner prison officials in North Carolina said he was being treated there. Duke Medical Center released a statement that they had not admitted a patient by Madoff's name.
Lawyer Ira Sorkin says Madoff has "had some dizzy spells and some high blood pressure."
A prison spokesperson stated that Madoff had not been involved being a prison altercation. Early reports Thursday stated that Madoff had been assaulted in prison and was receiving treatment.
Madoff has been in prison since March after pleading guilty to fraud and cheating investors out of billions of dollars.
