Potentially the biggest fight in boxing history has been called off, according to Bob Arum. What caused a breakdown of Pacman-Mayweather?
Although an official deal was never signed, fervent speculation of a fight between Manny "Pac-man" Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather
has been cancelled, according to top promoter Bob Arum.
"What I believe is Floyd never really wanted the fight", Arum told the Grand Rapids Press.
"Floyd to me is a coward and he's always been a coward, but a coward because he's afraid to face someone who could beat him. And believe me, Manny Pacquiao could bear him. So he'll go his way and, and that'll be fine."
The point of contention seems to be around drug testing. Mayweather wants an Olympic-style drug testing requirement that means giving samples within days of the fight. Pacquiao refuses to do so because of his superstition around testing. Neither has ever failed the already mandatory testing, which requires boxers to submit samples 30 days prior to a fight; and random blood and urine tests after the fight.Pacquiao has agreed to test no sooner than one week prior to the match.
However, the Mayweather camp apparently wants nothing less. The Pacquiao camp has decided to move on. Said Arum: "We're going in a different direction. What I believe is that Floyd never really wanted the fight and this is just harassment of Pacquiao."
