By Michael Bearak     Dec 20, 2009 in Sports
The Carolina Panthers showed signs of life tonight as they manhandled the Vikings in the second half of their game in Charlotte.
The Carolina Panthers executed great ball control in a dominating win over the Minnesota Vikings. The Panthers controlled the game by keeping Brett Favre off the field with clock domination holding the ball 37:59 to 22:01.
Matt Moore, starting for the Panthers tonight, threw for 299 yards on a 21 for 33 performance with 3 touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 123.2. His counterpart, Brett Favre struggled most of the night with a 17 for 27 performance for 224 yards with one interception and a 73.7 quarterback rating.
Adrian Peterson the star back for the Vikings also struggled getting 12 carries for 35 yards. While the Panthers' Johnathan Stewart had a solid game running for 109 yards on 25 carries and 1 touchdown. That gives Stewart 8 touchdowns on the season and over 800 as well.
Matt Moore in his 3 straight start for the Panthers has seen his quarterback rating go up each week and now has 2 wins in the last 3 weeks as the starter. Next week he and the Panthers go on the road to New York to face the Giants then return to Charlotte to face New Orleans Saints.
For the Vikings it wasn't all bad news. The loss by the Packers earlier in the day let them clinch the NFC North, regardless of the outcome here in Charlotte. The more troubling aspect for the Vikings was that they were not able to capitalize on the loss by the Saints and still are two games back in the race for home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
