Since it was reported that United States President Barack would be the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, many public officials have called for Obama to decline it or give it back, including Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.
Many people have publically called for President Barack Obama to give back his Nobel Peace Prize because he hasn’t done anything significant since being inaugurated. Just last month, the President added an additional 30,000 troops to Afghanistan and authorized the Central Intelligence Agency of increasing unmanned drones in Pakistan.
Digital Journal reported this week that the 2008 Republican Presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul said Obama “should have turned it down.” Another
Digital Journal report shows that the Dali Lama believes that the President’s win came a little early.
Another world leader, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, said, during a speech at the climate change conference in Copenhagen, Denmark on Thursday, according to
Press TV, “He [Obama] got the Nobel Peace Prize almost the same day as he sent 30,000 soldiers to kill innocent people in Afghanistan. Obama should give back the prize.” The Latin President added that the Bolivian leader Evo Morales would have made a much better choice for the Nobel Prize.
Post Zambia reports that Chavez further said that the US cannot defeat Venezuela with all of their military bases, “You should know that Mr Obama. Mr Nobel Peace Prize of war. And Secretary of State Clinton we feel no fear for you. What we are going to do now is to strengthen our relations with Iran.”
Throughout the speech, Chavez accused the US and Netherlands of plotting an attack on Venezuela as the US sent
military equipment to Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire, which are three Dutch islands off of Venezuela’s Caribbean coast.
“They are three islands in Venezuela's territorial waters, but they are still under an imperial regime: the Netherlands. Europe should know that the North American empire is filling these islands with weapons, assassins, American intelligence units, and spy planes and war ships." Chavez added that these plans are nothing more than an attempt to weaken leftist governments throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
