Famous nephew of Walt Disney, Roy Disney, has died at the age of 79 after struggling with cancer according to a spokesperson for Disney's company Shamrock Holdings.
Roy Disney, famed nephew of Walt Disney, died on Wednesday at the age of 79 from cancer, according to the Associated Press. Disney was an avid sailor and won the California-to-Hawaii Transpacific Yacht Race in record time about ten years ago. Disney also financially supported programs for youth who wanted to enter the sport.
The Vancouver Sun reports that Disney helped revived the animation team of the company and also helped organized two key executives quitting the organization: Ron Miller and Michael Eisner.
There was even a book by James B. Stewart on the situation called “Disney War.”
Disney mainly focused on nature films throughout the first twenty years with the company, reports the National Post. Such films include “The Owl That Didn't Give A Hoot," "Pancho, A Dog of the Plains" as well as an Oscar-nominated short "Mysteries of the Deep."
