article imageRussia Drops ClimateGate Bombshell; Claims Temp Data 'Cooked'

By Johnny Simpson     Dec 16, 2009 in Environment
Yesterday, the Institute of Economic Analysis in Moscow issued a report stating that Hadley CRU researchers in the UK's Met Office most likely tampered with Russian temperature data by omitting 40% of all data provided to establish false warming trends.
From James Delingpole at the Telegraph UK, Christopher C. Horner at Breitbart's Big Government website and meteorologist Joseph D'Aleo of comes the news that analysts in Moscow have concluded that temperature station data provided by Russia has been selectively tampered with in order to establish positive warming trends. In the IEA analysis, the Russians concluded that up to 40% of the data from all temperature monitoring stations across Russia was deliberately left out of the final reports provided by the UK Met Office. Those reports were generated by East Anglia CRU researchers currently under investigation by the Met Office. The CRU's top scientist, Phil Jones, has stepped down from his post pending the investigation's outcome.
IEA analysts assessed that Hadley CRU climatologists, now embroiled in the scandal which has come to be known as ClimateGate, selectively referenced the data from monitoring stations located in large populated centers that are influenced by the "urban-warming effect" more frequently than data from remote stations not influenced by Russia's urban hot zones. The IEA analysts factored in all temperature station data across Russia, including the remote station data not reported by the Hadley CRU analysts, and concluded it shows ultimately negligible zero-sum temperature patterns that indicate no real warming has taken place. The East Anglia CRU, which processed the Russian data upon which the UK Met Office and IPCC reports are based, is currently undergoing a Met Office investigation expected to take three years.
A Met Office spokesman stated that true global warming trends cannot be predicted accurately by the Met Office until their investigation is completed in 2012. Christopher Horner, who penned the Big Government report, is a Senior Fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. Mr. Horner recently filed a lawsuit against NASA to provide climate data as per official FOIA requests. NASA has refused to comply with the FOIA requests for over two years now. NASA scientist James Hansen, considered a top Global Warming analyst and proponent, has also been embroiled in a number of AGW-related scandals, such as the placing of temperature data for September 2008 into October 2008's report and declaring it the hottest October ever.
