News chopper crash injures 2 in Montreal

By Moushumi Chakrabarty     Dec 16, 2009 in World
Two people were injured early this morning when a helicopter used by the French language media network TVA tried to make an emergency landing near Montreal’s Bonaventure Expressway at the south end of the city.
CTV.ca reports that the journalist, identified as Rejean Leveille, was trapped in the chopper for about an hour before emergency services were able to free him from the wreckage. The pilot, Antoine Leger, was also taken to hospital. The temperature was about minus 12 at the time. The pilot was reporting mechanical trouble before attempting the emergency landing. The incident caused traffic chaos around the Bonaventure Autoroute during the morning rush hour.
Leveille is a well known journalist in the city, covering breaking news for the network. Leger is an experienced commercial pilot, reports say.
Reports say both men suffered fractures and are in stable condition.
